About fifteen years ago we bought a house in Spain: not just an apartment, but an uncivilized large country house, in bad condition by that time.
It is a former wine and olive oil farm and it also was once the summer residence of a noble family.
We bought the mansion from the aristocratic Spanish family de las Nieves de Muller y Morenes de Cavarjal Blanca , who despite their good name had neglected the house for many years.
The 19th century main part of the mansion is now restored back to its former glory and we made something special of the interior with murals applied by Dutch artists. Exotic, antique furniture and objects, found on Dutch auctions adds to the whole experience.
With a total living space of 900 sqrm, the mansion has three double bedrooms and two suites, all with beautiful en-suite bathrooms. The dining table in the gallery comfortably seats up to 14 guests, and the walled garden is the perfect place to enjoy a family meal or a large barbeque with friends. The large sun terrace offers a scenic view over the vine-fields all the way to the sea and the mountain range. In the movie room the classics and recent blockbusters found in the library can be projected on the large white wall for a cozy evening indoors.
The two kitchens of the house provide the choice of self-catering. Grocery stores and local markets are found in the neighboring villages less than 3 km away. Breakfast can be arranged at the mansion by prior agreement with the host and hostess. The region is famous for the Catalan slow-food and fresh seafood from the Mediterranean, and offers a wide selection of restaurants suitable for all tastes and budgets.
